My Daily Schedule Right Now + How I’m Staying Organized
One of my biggest goals this year is to be more organized. It starts at home, especially because I live and work here so it can get messy quickly. I always try to get the day started off right by making my bed first thing in the morning, which really helps me not get back into bed after feeding Birdie. So, number one thing for this year: keep making the bed! Lol. I think making the bed is the best first task to complete every day. It helps put me in the “let’s get sh*t done mindset”, which makes completing more tasks even easier.
But what about the rest of the day?
Here’s what a typical workday looks like at our house and the things we do that I would recommend to you that have worked well for us in terms of staying organized.
I work out at 5 am while everyone is asleep. Then I quietly creep into the shower, put make-up on (most days) and grab a nice top and jeans. By this time, Orvil is up with the kids and I go straight to helping him pack lunch, feed Birdie and then drop Harper off for school. This part of our day is honestly pretty regular with not a ton of surprises. I will tell y’all that prepping lunch the day before for the kids is key. Or at the very least have an idea of what you’re going to pack. It’ll make getting out the door so much easier.
Once I get home, I’m already on my second cup of coffee and ready to get to work. I go straight to my office and work on emails and calls. I highly recommend this planner – I would lose my head without it, seriously. I use it along with my daily to-do list. This way I have my big picture items organized in the planner but the smaller things that have to get done that day on my to-do list.
It’s better for me to have a clean space to work in and for it to be inspiring. To try to keep my workspace clean, I’m trying to implement a quick five minute tidy at the end of every workday. I usually feel annoyed when it’s time to do it but am always thankful the next day when my work area isn’t a mess. To make sure the space feels inspiring, I love having my art hanging above my desk and always have a diffuser going, along with my fave candle.
Airpods are a must so I can stay focused while working a few hours and then I give Orvil a break and play with Birdie for a while. When she goes down for a nap we have lunch together and then work on Instagram DMs and brand contracts or take calls/meetings.
Finally, I get to paint, which is definitely a bright spot in my day. I usually get to sneak in an hour or so and then I go pick up Harper from school. We come home, some days I take her to cheer too (this is when having this large family calendar comes in major handy!), and make dinner (Orvil tackles this task – check out his recipes on YoutTube). After dinner, we’ll watch a show together and/or make art (sometimes I have to work for a couple hours at night posting and replying to comments), and then it’s time for the kids to shower and go to bed.
And then last but not least, Orvil and I get an hour or two by ourselves and then we go to bed.
It’s important for us to stay in a routine and a lot of times I feel like I’m running in all different directions if I’m not organized. Anything is possible if you just make yourself do even the hardest mundane tasks (like tidying up your workspace!). I try to remember the quote that Beyoncé has the same 24 hours as I do! Lol. And while she may have assistants and a whole team of people, she didn’t always!
Now that 2020 is over with, we are well on our way for an even better new year full of all the freaking possibilities! I’m so excited for this year and growing with you all!! We’ve got this!
