One thing to know about me is that I’m always changing things up around our house. Part of it is because of my job, but I also do it because I love to create cozy spaces and as the seasons change, my style evolves and I discover products and brands I love, I’m always mixing things up around the house. We actually just gave our home office a huge facelift if you haven’t checked that out yet!
But one space in our house that I actually have loved for quite some time without chaning up too much is our bedroom. Between the bedding and the soothing colors, it’s become a sanctuary for Orvil and I. we can go there at the end of the day and just chill. And when you have a baby and two other kids running around, you definitely need this time lol.
So today I thought it’d be fun to break down a few simple steps for y’all to follow to make you own bedroom a sanctuary! Just do what I say and thank me later! 🙂
Think about the color
As an artist (you can shop my art here), I’m always thinking about color no matter what space I’m in, but especially in rooms where the goal is to relax. For example, red is not a relaxing color for the mind – it’s actually a really triggering color and can increase your heart rate and send your mind racing. That does not sound like what you want going on when you go to bed at night, right? Definitely not!
I’d recommend a soft green or warm white. These colors are refreshing, minimal and help to put your mind at ease! Plus they go with any decor style so they can work in any space really. Ultimately I’d just think about what relaxes you and head in that direction. This goes for your bedding too…
Amazing bedding
One of the biggest parts of creating a sanctuary is making sure your bed is a place you want to be. Make it cozy, comfy, soft and super inviting. We love this bedding for that as well as several pillows, but I linked lots of options below for y’all. Bring in some textures like velvet, gauze or muslin, linen and the softest cotton. Layer everything together and you’ll have the perfect oasis!
Add creature comforts
It’s the little things that add up to make a big impact in my experience so Orvil and I take our creature comfort very seriously, lol. We go all-in on the cozy blankets, candles and we even keep a sound machine in our room to make falling asleep even easier. If you don’t have a sound machine, I highly recommend getting this one! There’s a reason they use music/white noise machines while you get facials and massages – because they’re relaxing!!
I also included The Frame TV on this list because for some people having a TV in their room is comforting. I know there’s a lot of debate around this topic but what I love about The Frame is when you’re not using it, it’s just a beautiful piece of art!
Details that make your heart happy
OK, this might be might be my favorite tip! You’re trying to create your happy place, so think for a second about what makes you happy! For me that’s my art and pictures of my family. Bringing in these details that are personal to you will perfectly finish off you new sanctuary bedroom!
